Welcome to the home of ethical kosher meat in NYC (and beyond).

The founding philosophy of Kosher Conscience is the humane treatment of the animals we eat at every stage of the process within the confines of kashrut - Jewish dietary laws.

We believe that, perhaps more so than the average meat eater, kosher consumers (and any other religiously oriented consumer) have a responsibility to ensure that the meat we eat is obtained in as humane a way as possible.

Rather than this being simply a personal ethos, we believe this level of care is demanded of us by halacha (Jewish Law), under the tenet of tsar ba’alei chayim, the prohibition of causing pain to a living creature. In addition to the laws surrounding shechitah (Jewish ritual slaughter) which must be adhered to in order for the meat in question to be considered kosher for Observant Jews, we believe that people sensitive to the full nature of what halacha demands of us should strive to ensure that their meat consumption does not violate tsar ba’alei chayim as well.

For a further exploration of these issues and how Kosher Conscience is addressing them, please visit our Q + A section. Feel free to contact us directly with any additional questions you may have. We look forward to providing you with kosher meat we can all feel good about eating.

B’Shalom,
